LOS MASSIERAS CLOSING ACT FOR BERLIN FESTIVAL! + BRAND NEW “RUMORES” VIDEO

Playground Mag recently spilled the banana beans on our latest video, a live action/animated spectacle in the key of Na-na-na-na. It was created by Mario Takosuke and stars Natalia Ferviú as our dazzling protagonista. Dig it! (Or don’t – it’s entirely up to you.)

Meanwhile, Los Massieras are have been chosen as the last act standing at the insanely impressive lineup at this weekend’s Berlin Festival, playing Saturday night / Sunday morning at 5:00 at the Mobile Disko stage, where they will showcase their “Alive & Edited” mixture of live performance and DJ set. Get yourself in the mood by revisiting Los Massieras’ mix for FADER. And for Berliners who can’t make it to the fest: don’t worry, the boys will also be appearing next week Wednesday at Shade Inc./NBI and Thursday at Chez Jacki. More details on that next week…

Baris K makes Berlin debut at Picknick

Back in May, we shared an exclusive mixtape from Baris K and mentioned our plans to bring him to Berlin for the first time. And now that time has come! Well, technically not until tomorrow (Saturday), but you know what we mean. We’ve teamed up with Picknick to showcase Mr. K’s signature style, which blends obscure Anatolian pop and psychedelia together with more familiar disco elements, plus a bump of stardust so that things never stay too earthbound. Check Saturn Muzik for see and hear more from our Turkish protagonist.

Banamania & Picknick present
Baris K (Disco Hamam – Istanbul)
Saturday, 4th September 2010, 23:00
Dorotheenstrasse 90, Berlin-Mitte
w/ Hugo Capablanca, T.Keeler, MC Gaffe E, Okay&Okay and Joey Hansom.

Mixtape #013: Muzzle Flash

DISTORTION! DISTORTION! DISTORTION!

Distortion must be one of the most insane, out-there festivals held on Planet Earth and rest of the universe (we heard in Mars they pump up the volume real good too). Capablanca and T.Keeler, who went there last weekend to headline one of the seven scenarios of the final party on Saturday, can testify to that. Not happy with taking over the whole Copenhagen for almost a week, buses blasting beats all over the place, a party TANK and even a party SUBMARINE (yes, that’s right, a real submarine, and a party one at that), organizing a (double) two-minute rave on a bascule bridge playing techno on one side and metal on the other (while the bridge is actually opening), and a line-up that wouldn’t fit on the flyer (literally)… this year the Distortion crew took over Carlsbergtown, which is like a small beer city inside Copenhagen, and pushed the ravemeter to eleven. Or perhaps it was twelve, we don’t know, the gauge broke.

It was there where we met Muzzle Flash, a local responsible for the fantastic House of Moves party the night before (with our friends from Dirty Soundsystem). He has also remixed Munk, Kasper Bjørke, Whomadewho and even Mercury Rev, and after burning down the House with us, he promised to deliver an exclusive mixtape, a promise that he kept. Ladies and gents, Mr. Muzzle Flash presents “A Night in 48″…

Mixtape #012: David Barbarossa presents Night Dreams (Drinking Electricity)

Download: SoundCloud

David Barbarossa (not to be confused with the Bow Wow Wow member whose brainwaves were said to be controlled by defunct McLaren) lives and works in Glasgow. He has filled in many times for Mr. Wilkes or Herr Twich at the legendary and recently terminated Optimo (Espacio) nights and is considered by many as the third unofficial member of the duo. His record collection amounts many secret pieces and sometimes builds up in the shape of a Haunted Disco or a Gordon Matta-Clark tri-dimensional wormhole resulting on his house splitting in two. Overall he is known as Wizard Selector and Dancefloor Shaker, and with this sensational mixtape he dives into the more unknown electric impulses exploring the Interzone with decisive field results… For better audio quality, please do wear a loincloth and dance the Duck Rock.

For bookings please contact him directly via his Space: http://www.myspace.com/davidbarbarossa

Berliners, take note that House of House (Whatever We Want, NYC) is playing this Friday at Tausendisco — be there at midnite if you don´t wanna miss the fun, and afterward head over to the Gomma Super Show

Mixtape #006: Ron Morelli

Download: zSHARE | MEGAUPLOAD

After wild and successful launch parties in Berlin and São Paulo, Bananamania is invading NYC this weekend! Hugo Capablanca will DJ at Brooklyn’s Market Hotel along with Chupacabras, Speculator and Ron Morelli…

…the latter of which provide’s this week’s mixtape! We promised a mix from a beautifully mustached New Yorker for last week, but, well, better late than never. Also known as “The Falcon”, Mr. Morelli describes his concoction as “done live with vinyl on the mega fly jammed through an fx unit for maxxxium crunch out old school feel”. Well, there you have it! And we can provide the EXCLUSIVE TIP that he is also about to launch a label called Long Island Electrical Systems. Its upcoming debut release comes from the widely unknown Malvoeaux, featuring three tracks of 90s inspired house, chopped disco loops, 909s, dramatic builds and the like. Definite summertime feel good jams! Be on the lookout.

Meanwhile in Berlin, Tausendisco continues on Friday with guest DJ Felix “Foolish” Dickinson (Mule Musiq – UK) and substitute host Salto Mortale.

Mixtape #005: Xaver von Treyer

Download: zSHARE | MEGAUPLOAD

Xaver Naudascher recently changed his surname to von Treyer — perhaps to avoid confusion with Christian pop singer Xavier Naidoo or Chicago Cubs player Xavier Nady.  He is the owner of Berlin-based, DFA-affiliated Supersoul Recordings, known for their releases by Moon Unit, Paul Mogg, Blackstrobe and Plastique de Rêve among others. Herr von Treyer is also a skillful producer, engineer, film score composer and of course DJ, as you’ll soon find out if you download his mixtape and/or come this Friday to Tausend. Those of you already in the know might recognize that this mix is actually a re-run (previously posted by VICE), but it’s so lovely that we felt it deserves a second run. (Besides, we have another exclusive mixtape ready for later this week, recorded by a beautifully mustached New Yorker. Check back soon!)

Tracklist:

  1. La Düsseldorf – Vögel
  2. Popol Vuh – Kha White Structures Part 1
  3. Xaver von Treyer – Electric Mistress
  4. Ted Nugent – Stranglehold
  5. Can – Halleluwah
  6. Grackle – Desert Acid (Musiccargo rmx)
  7. Zwan – Number Of The Beast
  8. Birth Control – Gamma Ray (History Clock edit)
  9. Mock & Toof – Underwater (Gavin Gordon version)
  10. Kaine – Disco Delay
  11. Bruce Springsteen – State Trooper (Brennan’s Jersey Turnpike edit)
  12. The Field – The More That I Do
  13. Gary Numan – Music For Chameleons (Klinger edit)
